DISABLED MOTHER, AFRIYIE, RECEIVES SPECIAL MOTHERS DAY DONATION FROM CEO OF WEMBLEY SPORTS COMPLEX, MR. ROBERT COLEMAN ON TV3 NEWDAY – A TV3 NEWDAY INITIATIVE.

Mother’s Day is a special occasion celebrated across the world to honour the love, care, and sacrifices made by mothers. However, for some mothers, the day can be bittersweet due to the various challenges they face in life. One such mother is Afriyie, who lives in Kotobabi, a suburb of Accra. She is a disabled mother who must navigate physical and emotional barriers to provide for her child

A story that sheds light on Afriyie’s plight as well as those of others like her was produced by Roland Walker and broadcast on TV3’s NewDay programme.

The story highlighted Afriyie’s daily struggles to make ends meet as she is not gainfully employed due to her physical disability. She also lacks access to a toilet facility. Afriyie’s story touched the heart of Mr. Robert Coleman, CEO of Wembley Sports Complex who pledged GHC5,000 to the course and managed to raise GHC21,000 from benevolent friends and colleagues.

On Friday, May 12, 2023, Mr Coleman donated an amount of GHC27,000 and GHC44,000 worth of a year’s insurance package from Equity Health Insurance. Afriyie was also offered employment at Wembley Sports Complex and a wheelchair.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Robert Coleman said, “I grew up in Kotobabi and have already heard about her story so when I saw Afriyie’s story on TV3, I was very touched and decided to help.”

Mrs Amma Quarm of 3 Foundation also threw light on the objectives of 3 Foundation. According to her, “Through its Media partners like TV3, 3 Foundation continues to enrich the lives of Ghanaians through sustainable corporate social investment initiatives like these.” The donation made a huge impact on Afriyie’s life and that of her child. It gave her hope and reminded her that she was not alone in her struggles.
