

Joseph Warungu is the GM for News with responsibility over strategy and delivery of News and Current Affairs programmes across all platforms for Media General. He is a renowned International Broadcaster with over 25 years experience in broadcast journalism and management.
Prior to joining Media General, he was a Media and Communications Consultant and trainer working with different African and international organizations.
Joseph has worked with the BBC for 20 years rising from a broadcast journalist to become Head of BBC African News and Current Affairs department with responsibility for the BBC’s news programmes for Africa in English.
He managed and supervised a team of over 100 reporters, producers and presenters across the UK, Africa and the rest of the world
He has a passion for development reporting and for two years was the Project Director of the African Story Challenge, a $1 million Pan-African programme of reporting grants funded by the Gates Foundation to encourage and support African media to improve the quality and quantity of content on development issues.
Joseph is well travelled across Africa and is an experienced moderator who has moderated many high-level public debates including presidential debates in Tanzania and Kenya.
He holds a Masters degree in Media Management from the University of Leeds.
He is married with children.
